HOUSTON – Two suspects are on the run after Houston Police say a breastfeeding mother was robbed at gunpoint and her baby fell to the ground during the incident.
Surveillance video obtained by our KPRC 2 Community News Partner, Grizzy’s Hood News, appears to show two men running before the robbery.
Around 12:15 p.m., one clip shows two men sprinting down the street; a second clip appears to show one man dropping a purse, climbing a fence, rifling through the bag, picking up what looks like a gun and take off.
The witness, who asked not to be named, said the suspects made their way to Middle Street and Fox Street. She was nearby when she heard people yelling about the robbery.
“I shouted what was going on and one of them came over he was like hey I need you to go back inside there’s a guy that just robbed a mom and her newborn baby and they’re on the run they’re running off right now. We can’t find them anywhere. And the mom, I guess she was in shock. She dropped the baby from everything that was happening, and the baby fell onto the concrete floor on its head,” the witness said.
Another video shows a man, wearing a jacket in earlier clips, appearing to hide in a backyard and later sitting on an air-conditioning unit and pulling what looks like a gun from his pants.
The witness said Houston police recovered one of the suspect’s jackets in her relative’s yard. Authorities have not charged the men in the surveillance clips; their faces are being blurred in the publicly shared footage because they have not been arrested or formally charged.
“I was horrified. I mean, who would do that to a mother and a newborn? You know, the most innocent people that could have been there,” the witness said.
Houston Police told KPRC 2 the baby and her mother are expected to be okay. Anyone with information is urged to contact Houston Police.
