Gunshot, then a crash: man found dead in front yard in north Houston

HPD says the victim, believed to be in his early 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene

HOUSTONHouston police are investigating a deadly shooting and crash reported around 4 a.m. Sunday near Wheatley and Marcolin Streets in north Houston.

Officers responding to a call from a nearby resident found a Hispanic man in his 20s dead outside a home. Investigators said he appears to have died from a gunshot wound, and two shell casings were found near his body. The medical examiner is still working to confirm the cause of death.

A homeowner told officers he heard gunfire, followed immediately by a crash, then went outside and found the man in the front yard. Police believe the shooting happened on Wheatley Street and said there are no known witnesses.

A white car was seen near the scene; investigators said there were no bullet holes on it, but they believe it may be connected to the crash that was reported.

The HPD Homicide Division is investigating the incident.
