HOUSTON – Houston police say one person is dead and another taken to a hospital after a possible drive-by shooting in southeast Houston.
The shooting happened in the 8700 block of Black Hawk Ridge at Great Hawk.
Sky 2 Chopper flew over the scene and crime scene tape and several police units can be seen in the area. A body could also be seen in the area.
Police say they believe there was some sort of verbal altercation before the shooting.
Both the victims were male and believed to possibly be in their late teens.
KPRC 2 News Reporter Corley Peel spoke with neighbors who said they heard roughly six gunshots.
Neighbors say they saw one of the victims running to neighbors doors, asking for help.
Other neighbors noticed another victim lying on the ground. Shon Aviles told Corley he and another neighbor immediately rushed to help.
“I was passing by and I saw someone on the floor, so out of good deed I just tried to see if he was okay. By the time I arrived it appeared he had been shot in the back. I flipped him over — that’s when I saw the individual was deceased. I started chest compressions and I called the ambulance,” Aviles said.
Aviles said he realized he knew who the victim was, a 17-year-old boy who is well known in the neighborhood.
A friend of the victim expressed heartbreak over the loss.
“It’s just tragic. He’s 17. He didn’t even make it to his 18th birthday,” said Sebastian Mar.
HPD confirmed they recovered the car believed to be in the drive-by shooting. Viewers shared surveillance video of a silver car driving through the neighborhood after the shooting. As of Thursday night, no arrests had been announced. Investigators say they are working to speak with several people in connection with the shooting.
