Polls are now closed across some parts Texas for the primary runoff election, where voters decided on which Republican and Democratic candidates will advance to the November general election.
Election leaders encouraged residents to make their voices heard after Harris County saw significantly lower turnout during early voting.
According to election officials, early voting turnout in Harris County dropped roughly 56% compared to the March primary election, despite record participation earlier this year.
Voters in Harris County can cast their ballot at any of the county’s 160 polling locations, regardless of precinct.
Several closely watched races are on the ballot, including:
- The Republican nomination for U.S. Senate
- The Democratic runoff for Texas’ 18th Congressional District
- The Republican runoff for the newly created 9th Congressional District
- The Democratic primary runoff for Harris County judge
Election officials remind voters to bring an approved form of photo identification before heading to the polls.
Polling locations will remain open until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
