KATY, Texas – A man was killed early Sunday after a large fight broke out at a party in Katy, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were dispatched about 12:15 a.m. to a reported fight disturbance in the 24600 block of Sandal Springs.
While the caller was still on the line with 911, shots were reported fired outside the home, investigators said. When units arrived, they found an approximately 45-year-old man dead at the scene.
Detectives said multiple people were involved in the fight. During the disturbance, one person went to a vehicle, retrieved a firearm and shot the man multiple times.
Based on video evidence recovered during the investigation, authorities said the person who fired the shots was involved in the fight. Investigators believe the shooter specifically targeted the victim and did not fire randomly into the crowd.
The gathering was described as mostly family, though others who were not family were also present. Investigators do not believe the shooter was a family member of the victim or anyone hosting the party.
The victim’s identity is not being released pending next of kin notification. Investigators are working to positively identify the shooter. If a warrant is obtained, authorities said that information will be released.
