HOUSTON – June 19, 2026, marks 161 years since freedom was announced for African Americans enslaved in Texas in 1865.
Since then June 19 was observed as a federal holiday known as Juneteenth and is often spent celebrating freedom and the historical significance of the date.
Below is a list of what will be closed for the holiday and what will remain open.

Closed or Adjusted Hours Government Offices
All federal and city offices will be closed for the holiday.

Services operating on a normal weekday schedule:

Services with adjusted schedules:
METROLift reservations and customer service will be closed, but Friday subscription trips will not be affected.
METRO RideStore locations and METRO Lost & Found will be closed.
The METRO Customer Service Call Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
