HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – On Friday, deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to a call for a stolen tailgate on 1960 Road West in northwest Harris County. The victim told deputies he recognized the tailgate in a Facebook Marketplace post and arranged to meet the seller.

Deputies met the seller, identified as Carl Thomas, at the designated location. They say Thomas attempted to run off but was quickly apprehended after deputies deployed a Taser.

Investigators later executed a search warrant and recovered the victim’s tailgate, along with seven additional stolen tailgates.

Thomas was booked into the Harris County Jail on outstanding warrants and a theft charge. His bond on the theft charge was set at $5,000.

Hawkins was also charged with theft, and his bond was set at $100.

The Constable’s Office urges residents not to confront suspected thieves and to report stolen property being offered for sale online.
