HOUSTON – It was back in May when 2 Helps You first showcased the challenges with illegal dumping along the 8000 block of North Antoine Drive. A parking lot housing a closed-down Pizza Hut dining location had been turned into a massive urban dump site.
We first visited the property in May after complaints to the Help Desk. During our visit it didn’t take long to spot furniture, mattresses, clothing --- even a fish tank.
Residents and workers in the area said calls to officials had resulted in no actions taken to clean the massive site.
Since then, 2 Helps You has been consistently reaching out to the offices of County Commissioner Rodney Ellis as the location sits in his precinct. His office confirmed they were attempting to address the illegal dumping after we brought it to their attention. However, the community did not see any action.
Fast forward to now, the lot has been completely cleaned.
A spokesperson for the Commissioner Ellis confirming the county’s health department oversaw the clean up the site last week by the property owners.
Kenneth Ray, a local worker, says he was “excited” when he saw the big dumpsters rolling onto the site, “Ok, they are getting it done.”
Ray happy with the end result. His hopes is that it now stays that way.
