According to KFF, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization focusing on national health policy, workers with employer-sponsored family insurance plans contributed an average of $6,296 toward their annual premiums in recent years — up from $4,823 a decade earlier. Legacy Community Health, which serves more than 200,000 patients each year and operates 65 clinic locations across Houston and Beaumont, said patients can work with eligibility specialists to explore payment options, including sliding fee programs and assistance programs for those who qualify.

Mobile health clinics are designed to bring healthcare services into communities, reducing barriers like transportation, long wait times or having to take time away from work.

In Harris County, people can access two Access2Health smart pods. Both are in Aldine. They provide services such as primary care, routine lab work and mental health services, with some services available at reduced cost or at no cost for eligible patients.

Direct-access lab testing offers another way to get certain tests
Some consumers are also exploring direct-access lab testing, which allows people to order certain lab tests and pay directly instead of going through the traditional insurance process.
For some people — especially those who are uninsured or have high-deductible health plans — paying a set cash price for certain tests may cost less than paying out of pocket through their insurance. However, prices vary depending on the test, the provider and the person’s insurance coverage.
Any Lab Test Now is a national chain that offers direct-access testing. The company says customers can see pricing upfront and pay for testing directly rather than billing insurance.
Experts recommend understanding what a test can and cannot tell you. A lab result is information — not a diagnosis. If a result is abnormal or raises concerns, following-up with a healthcare provider is still important.
