HOUSTON – A 17-year-old Westbury High School senior was shot and killed Friday morning just steps from campus, prompting a massive law enforcement response and hours of heightened security for thousands of southwest Houston students and families.
Officers were called to the scene just before 10 a.m. HPD Chief Noe Diaz said detectives are interviewing two witnesses and reviewing surveillance video from apartment cameras along Chimney Rock Road. Follow live updates below:
10:30 a.m. Westbury High School remains in secure mode as law enforcement and 25 Texas DPS troopers are canvassing surrounding apartment buildings and wooded areas for the shooter.
9:55 a.m. “This is something that should not happen in our community. Young people at the moment making bad decisions.” HPD Police Chief Noe Diaz said. “We’re working diligently to make sure we get someone in custody as soon as possible. To make sure this area is safe.”
