Man killed after being struck multiple times on Gulf Freeway near Baybrook Mall, HPD says

WEBSTER, Texas – A man was killed Saturday night after being struck on the northbound Gulf Freeway near El Dorado Boulevard and Baybrook Mall, Houston police said.

Clear Lake Division officers responded to the crash around 9:11 p.m. after receiving reports that a man was walking in multiple lanes of traffic. Responding officers said the man appeared to have been hit multiple times. Houston Fire Department personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

An SUV involved in the initial collision remained at the scene. Police said the driver told investigators they had consumed one alcoholic beverage around 5 p.m. The DWI unit cleared the driver, and no charges are pending at this time.

HPD Sgt. Yasin said earlier in the evening, dispatchers received two calls about a man possibly experiencing a mental health crisis at a nearby shopping center, near Dave’s Hot Chicken and a pizzeria. Police believe those calls may have involved the same man later struck on the freeway.
