Magnolia man arrested in road rage shooting, authorities say

MAGNOLIA, Texas – Deputies have identified a man suspected in a road rage shooting Saturday in Magnolia.

Christopher Delacruz, 21, has been charged with murder.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened in the 29400 block of Aberdeen Drive in Magnolia. When deputies arrived, they said they found Jose Augusto Lozada, 56, lying on the side of the road with gunshot wounds to the head and torso.

Investigators said that the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident that began at the intersection of Aberdeen Dr. and Highland Blvd.

Deputies said Delacruz, of Magnolia, followed Lozada to his residence after a minor collision and a disturbance began between Delacruz and Lozada. Deputies said Delacruz retrieved a semi-automatic pistol from his vehicle and fired multiple shots at Lozada, striking him at least twice and killing him.

"He was aiming to kill," said Heather Lozada, Jose Lozada's daughter-in-law. Heather Lozada told KPRC2 she heard two gunshots and saw Delacruz fire his last into Lozada. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Lozada's son, Cesar, tried to comfort his father, according to Heather Lozada. She said Delacruz even pointed is gun at her and her husband before speeding off.

"He had a light on top and a gun on the bottom a d he's pointing at us," she said.

Deputies found Delacruz waiting in his truck near the scene. He was arrested. He is now in the Montgomery County Jail.

Lozada's family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses.
