Masked bank robbers get away with cash; police ask for help

Robbery happened at Capital One bank on Eldridge Parkway in Houston

HOUSTON – Authorities are seeking the public's help in identifying five masked bank robbers.

The robbery happened at the Capital One bank in the 1100 block of Eldridge Parkway in Houston at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

FBI Houston officials said four men with hoods and masks covering their faces entered the bank. One of the robbers remained at the door as a lookout, while the others rushed in and robbed tellers.

There were customers with children inside the bank when the robbery happened. Officials said no one was physically hurt.

The men, who got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, ran out of the bank and all got into a getaway vehicle driven by a fifth man, officials said.

The bank robbers inside the bank were described by authorities as tall, thin, black men with athletic builds and possibly in their early to mid-20s. Officials said the getaway vehicle, seen in surveillance video, was described as a silver Volkswagen Jetta with no front license plate.

The same men are believed to be responsible for two similar robberies at area banks in March and January this year, officials said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS or the Houston office of the FBI at 713-693-5000. Officials said Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the bank robbers.
