DES MOINES, Iowa – The $1.9 billion Powerball jackpot drawing scheduled for Monday night was delayed due to a ”technical glitch,” according to lottery host Laura Johnson.

“Because of a technical problem tonight, we are unable to bring you the Powerball drawing at this time. As soon as we are unable to resolve the issue and conduct the drawing, it will be available on Powerball.com,” Johnson said. “Our rules require that the drawing be delayed until we can ensure that all game procedures have been successfully completed.”

No time frame for the drawing was released.

The record Powerball jackpot grew to an even larger $1.9 billion after no one won the lottery drawing on Saturday night.

The new $1.9 billion jackpot is for a winner who is paid through an annuity over 29 years. Winners of lottery jackpots usually prefer a lump sum of cash, which for Monday’s drawing would be $929.1 million.

Since someone won the prize on Aug. 3, there have been 40 drawings without a winner. That matches a record for draws without a winner, along with a run of drawings last year, according to the Clive, Iowa-based Multi-State Lottery Association.

Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
