HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 60-year-old woman shot and killed one of two robbers outside a west Harris County home, deputies said.
The incident was reported at 11:18 a.m. in the 20000 block of Fort Bowie Court.
Deputies said two armed men walked in through the woman's garage door when she was home alone. The woman confronted them, grabbed her pistol and fired.
“The interior door was not locked so they walked in carrying weapons and then came into the house. Don’t know if they demanded personal effects, money or what right now,” Deputy Thomas Gilliam said. “She confronted both suspects. She then retrieved a handgun and fired several times at both subjects.”
The woman shot and killed one of the suspects and the second suspect fled the scene, according to deputies.
A next-door-neighbor, Margarita Bahena, heard the shots and walked outside to find him dead, in her neighbor’s front yard.
“I go outside and in my car I call the police,” Bahena said.
Deputies set up a perimeter around the neighborhood and searched for several hours, with the help of the Texas Department of Safety helicopter. They did not find the second suspect.
It is unknown if that suspect was injured during the shooting.
