KATY, Texas – A 15-year-old student who wandered off from a Katy ISD high school has been found safe.
The district says the special needs student was reported missing at around 2 p.m. Wednesday after staff noticed the girl was not in class.
School personnel search the building and contact Katy ISD police and the student's parents, according to the district.
Katy ISD said security footage showed the student leaving through an exterior door at Cinco Ranch High.
At around 3:50 p.m., Katy ISD said the student was found safe and sound. Deputies say the student was spotted by a civilian in the 2300 block of New South Wales Court.
The district released a statement which read in part, "This incident is currently under investigation, and steps will be taken to ensure that all procedures are followed. At Katy ISD, the safety of all students is our top priority."
