Sugar Land man drowns in river near Austin

DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas – A Sugar Land man drowned Sunday in a river near Austin, according to KXAN-TV.

The television station reported that Zayd Mustafa, 22, was trying to swim across the Pedernales River at Reimers Ranch Park when he began to struggle and disappeared underwater.

Authorities said Mustafa’s brother tried to rescue him but was also pulled underwater. They said bystanders rescued Mustafa’s brother, who was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Mustafa’s body was found Monday morning.
