SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department has made a third arrest in connection to the shooting deaths of 18-year-old Savanah Soto and her boyfriend, Matthew Guerra on Wednesday, KSAT-TV reported.

SAPD announced the arrest of Myrta Romanos during a news conference Wednesday. She is charged with abuse of a corpse, alter/destroy/conceal of a human corpse and tampering with evidence.

Police said Romanos is believed to be the stepmother of 19-year-old suspect Christopher Preciado and the common-law wife of his father, Ramon Preciado, 53. According to investigators, the gun used to kill the couple belonged to Romanos. Christopher Preciado was charged with capital murder and his father, Ramon Preciado was charged with abuse of a corpse for allegedly helping his son move the couple’s bodies.

Police said when Romanos was questioned, she told them she didn’t remember events from the night of Dec. 21 and said she was asleep. Investigators were reportedly able to place her at the scene after surveillance footage showed her returning home in a pickup truck with the two other suspects on the night of the shooting. The truck was seen in separate surveillance footage at the apartment complex where Soto and Guerra were discovered, KSAT reported.

According to investigators, Christopher Preciado is the actual killer in the case.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that Guerra had gone to Preciado’s home to sell him marijuana on Dec. 21.

Christopher Preciado said that Guerra pointed a gun at him when Preciado “manipulated the weapon,” resulting in Soto being shot, the affidavit said. Moments later, Guerra once again pointed the gun at Christopher Preciado, who told detectives that he “manipulated the weapon again,” resulting in Guerra being shot.

The affidavit said Christopher Preciado drove Guerra’s vehicle to the apartment complex down the street on Danny Kaye Drive, where the bodies were discovered five days later.
