HOUSTON – 'The Voice' summer tour hit Houston Monday night with La Porte's Jake Worthington as one of the featured performers. The 18-year-old Worthington is following his second-place finish on the show this past season with a six-week, cross-country tour with other Voice performers.

Local 2 got exclusive backstage access and caught up with him before the show.

"Aww man, it's exciting," said Worthington. "It's going to be great to perform in front of my hometown crowd you know.  Especially the folks who haven't been able to go to my smaller gigs and stuff, and now they know who I am."

This was the tour's third night, just a few weeks after Worthington's graduation from La Porte High School. He knew he'd be playing in front of dedicated fans, both old and new.

"We had people come in from Shreveport, Louisiana. We had people come in from Dallas to come hang out. Amarillo. I mean, it's unbelievable," said his dad, Bubba Worthington.

On the tour, Worthington will perform music from several different genres and is grateful for the experience. But he says he can't wait to tackle his career as a country music singer once the tour concludes and he can go back to being himself.

"That's what everybody's gonna get 24-7 for the rest of my life. I can just hope that my career just explodes in a positive manner and roll on," said Worthington.

The Voice summer tour heads to Tampa next and wraps up in early August.
