HOUSTON – A thief broke into the Saint John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church in northwest Houston.
The pastor said the thief broke the stained glass and came inside and stole more than $12,000 in religious artifacts, which included the processional cross, gold fans and art work.
The thief even dumped out the holy water in order to steal a shiny bucket, according to the pastor.
"They are so intimately tied to the community because of their use, their function, so perhaps the person or persons will experience God's love and maybe come to a change of heart," said Pastor Elias Rafaj.
"Firstly that perhaps they have a conversion of their own, that at least understand that these items have a value for the community that has gathered at this place that has for thirty years to pray and praise God," added Rafaj.
