HOUSTON – It's been a particularly rough flu season, and the results have been deadly in Texas.
Thousands of people have died since the start of flu season.

Influenza activity remains high in Texas as of last week, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services, and officials said they are not yet able to determine if flu activity has peaked for the season.
At least 2,355 people have died of influenza and pneumonia across Texas from Oct. 1, 2017 through Jan. 20, 2018.
The majority of the deaths -- 78.3 percent -- are accounted by those 65 years and older.

One new pediatric influenza death was reported in that week -- a 17-year-old with underlying health conditions and who did not receive the flu vaccine died. Five total pediatric deaths have been reported for the flu season.
The percentage of specimens testing positive for influenza increased 5.19 percent from Jan. 14-20 over the previous week.
