HOUSTON – With mosquito season approaching, Harris County health officials provided tips for the public on how to prevent mosquito-borne diseases such as West Nile virus and Zika virus.
Harris County Judge Ed Emmett; Umair A Shah, MD, MPH, executive director, Harris County Public Health; and Mustapha Debboun PhD, director, Mosquito and Vector Control, HCPH, were at the Office of Emergency Management Tuesday to provide simple steps residents can take to protect themselves.
Harris County is home to about 56 species of mosquitoes.
Some of the species can carry diseases that make you sick, cause birth defects and can be fatal.
