What you need to know about the Dynamo game

HOUSTON – If you’re planning to jump on the Dynamo bandwagon then tonight is the night to do it. Houston’s Major League Soccer team is hosting Leg 1 (aka game 1) of the Western Conference Championship.

That’s the MLS equivalent of the Houston Astros making it into the ALCS.

This is the only Western Conference Championship game that Houston will host. They face the Seattle Sounders in a two-game aggregate-goal series. That means you don’t have to win both games to advance to the MLS Cup. Rather, whichever team has the most total goals between the two games will head to the league championship match.

The second game will be played Nov. 30 in Seattle.

Should the Dynamo come out on top they will face the winner of the Eastern Conference Championship, which is being played between Toronto and the Columbus Crew.  The MLS Cup is a single-game winner-take-all and will be hosted by whichever team has the better regular-season record.

Unfortunately, both Eastern Conference teams have a better record than the Dynamo.

If you’re going to try to go to the game (which is sold out) there is something one fan wants you to know.

“We don’t go to the game and sit down and eat nachos and drink beer. That’s not our culture, that’s not what we do, that’s not this kind of sport,” said Miguel Sada, who’s been a fan since the team’s first game. “This is not basketball, this is not baseball or football where you sit down the whole 90 minutes and just eat your food and drink your drink and that’s it, at the end of the game you’re done.

Here now we sing before the game starts, during the game and after the game.”

Now that you know that, here is some extra game day info.

Traditions to be aware of straight from the team’s website:

Team Introductions

Be loud and be proud by yelling the last names of your Dynamo as the starting lineups are announced.

Scarves Up

When the Dynamo enter the field prior to kickoff, stand and raise your scarves as they are introduced and come onto the pitch. Don't have a Dynamo scarf? Head to the adidas Dynamo Team Store located on the north side of the concourse before heading to your seat!

Tifo Watch

Watch for a special banner to be raised by the supporters following the national anthem.

Three Little Birds

Join the Dynamo supporters groups of El Batallon, Texian Army, and Brickwall Firm in a special rendition of Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds" in the 10th minute of the match in honor of the city of Houston and their fallen member, Memo Morales. Click here for the complete lyrics.

Corner Kicks

Make sure you stand for corners and yell "Ooooh Houston" on goal kicks.

Dynamo Goals

Go crazy when we score!

Streamers

At select seats, a Dynamo streamer will be provided. When the Dynamo score a goal, throw your streamer high in the air. Streamers are also available for purchase at the Dynamo Adidas Team Store. But please remember to follow the fan code of conduct and never throw a streamer onto the field or at any player or official.
