HOUSTON – Veronica Rivas, 21, who is charged with intoxication manslaughter after a crash Wednesday that killed a mother and her infant son in southeast Houston, is free on bond.
Police said Clear Lake patrol officers were called around 4 a.m. Wednesday to the Gulf Freeway at El Dorado Boulevard.
Investigators said a white Lioncoln MKX slammed into the back of a Scion carrying Shayla Joseph, 36, and her 3-month-old son.
Officers arrived and found Joseph and the baby dead inside the car.

Rivas and a passenger in the SUV were taken to a hospital, where Rivas was found to be driving under the influence, police said.
She was charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter and taken to a Harris County jail. Her bond was set at $30,000 for each count.
Joseph was an administrative coordinator in the Human Resources Department at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
She leaves behind husband, Bryan Joseph, who said she was "angelic, always polite and smiling all the time."
