CLEVELAND, Texas – Water receded enough Thursday to allow the Houston SPCA, Humane Society of Missouri and Michigan Humane Society to rescue 40 cats and 27 dogs from flooded property in Cleveland.
Houston SPCA said even though the owners were unable to rescue their animals as the floodwaters rose, food and water was ferried to the pets daily.

The teams were able to get in and slowly caravan the animals out using 4x4 trucks.
SPCA officials said some of the animals are suffering from hair loss, overgrown nails and upper respiratory infections, but all were friendly and well-fed, and happily greeted their rescuers.
