Prepare for a weekend filled with creativity, inspiration and community spirit. The Bayou City Art Festival will return to Houston in October and bring plenty of entertainment for the entire family.

This year’s festival will feature 280 artists from across the country, showcasing works in 19 different disciplines. Attendees will be able to view a diverse display of original art, including paintings, prints, jewelry, sculptures and functional art.

This year’s featured artist, Ash Beheshti, is a mixed media artist from Los Angeles who will captivate guests with his unique vision and dynamic storytelling through art.

Beheshti describes his mixed media paintings as windows to his mind and the boundless ideas that fuel his artistic journey.

“Painting is freedom,” he said. “The possibilities are infinite. Living in a world run by norms, rules and regulations, I find no limits to what I can create when I stare at a blank canvas. When working on a piece, my focus is always on inventing ways to make it as distinctive and awe-inspiring to the viewer as possible. Hearing ‘I’ve never seen anything like this before’ from an observer viewing my work for the first time is truly the best music to my ears.”

Originally from Northern California, Beheshti moved to Los Angeles in the late 1990s to pursue his passion for art, fashion photography, film and music. His distinct style emerged from combining various mediums, including hand-painted acrylics layered over collages of vintage sheet music, magazine ads and more.

Known for his figurative collages that celebrate the female form, Beheshti aims to portray women in a strong, positive and inspirational light.

“Whether it’s a closeup of a face in deep thought or a figure of a woman in a glamorous pose, I portray my subject in the most flattering and inspirational light,” Beheshti said. “To depict elements of spirituality in my work, I often paint butterflies dancing and surrounding my subject. Representing transformation, beauty and freedom, these butterflies tell the story of a woman experiencing inner growth and empowerment in a timeless and tasteful image captured in the moment.”

Beyond the art

In addition to the visual displays from Beheshti and all the other artists, the festival will provide a vibrant atmosphere with live entertainment on multiple stages. Guests can enjoy a variety of food from the food truck park and unwind in the craft beer and wine garden.

For those who will attend with family, the Active Imagination Zone will offer hands-on activities that engage visitors of all ages. Whether you’re looking to create your own masterpiece or simply enjoy the interactive experiences, there’s something for everyone.
