NCAA Final Four planning for Houston underway

HOUSTON – In the next couple of years, NRG Stadium will be host to two of the biggest sporting events in the country.

Although the NCAA Men's Final Four isn't until April 2016, the planning has already begun.

President and CEO of the local host committee, Doug Hall said the economic impact the weekend-long event brings to the city is likely more than you'd expect.

"Houston is a can-do city. I think that's what makes us unique. I think that's why the NCAA basketball committee wants to come back to Houston," said Hall.

With Houston hosting for the second time in five years, the planning committee is preparing to make the changes necessary this time around.

"One-hundred and fifty million dollars direct spending into the economy, 50,000 hotel rooms, 75,000-plus out-of-town visitors, so this is exactly the kind of event that Houston is built for," said Hall.

Hall stressed that the Final Four weekend is much more than three basketball games.

"It's awesome. It's a very unique event. Not a lot of people get to go to Final Fours, large percentage of travel from year to year, so those Houstonians who have a chance, we're excited to bring it here," said Hall.
