Rockets rule Kenny Smith out of head coach search

No description found

HOUSTON – As the Houston Rockets continue their search for a new head coach, one more name has come off their list. Channel 2 Sports has confirmed earlier reports that TNT analyst Kenny Smith has been informed he is no longer a candidate for the position.

Smith interviewed with the team last week in Florida, and a source indicated he was "very impressive," though he will not be the team’s choice.

While Smith has no previous coaching experience, Houston has already interviewed a host of candidates with varying levels of experience.

Former Suns head coach Jeff Hornacek, former Cavaliers head coach David Blatt and Sixers associate head coach Mike D’Antoni have been interviewed.
D’Antoni also served as head coach for the Suns, Knicks and Lakers, previously.

Current NBA assistant coaches Sam Cassell (Clippers), Stephen Silas (Hornets), and Chris Finch (Rockets) have been interviewed as well.

The Rockets are also believed to have interest in recently fired Pacers head coach Frank Vogel.

Former Rockets head coach Jeff Van Gundy remains a strong candidate for the job.
