HOUSTON – Houston, we have another Final Four!
The NCAA basketball tournament will return to the Bayou City in 2023. The Final Four games will be played at NRG Stadium, which hosted the tournament in 2016 and 2011.
Houston also hosted the Final Four in 1971.
"Houston’s on a roll. We are part of the winning 2026 World Cup bid, we landed 2024 college football playoffs and we just successfully hosted the 2016 Final Four & Super Bowl LI. This proves we know how to host multiple big events in succession," Harris County Houston Sports Authority CEO Janis Burke said.
The Final Four committee said improvements and developments to the downtown area were a significant reason for choosing Houston again.
"If you can dream it, you can make it happen. We asked for the Final Four to come in 2023 and that’s exactly what we got. No one can put on big events like the city of Houston!" Mayor Sylvester Turner said.
Houston will be the first major city with four Division I basketball teams in a Final Four host city -- University of Houston, Rice University, Texas Southern University and Houston Baptist University.
The sports authority said they have more big events possibly coming to Houston that they hope to announce by the end of the year.
Several more host cities were announced: 2024 will be played in Phoenix; 2025 in San Antonio, and 2026 in Indianapolis.
