HOUSTON – The Houston Astros placed closer Roberto Osuna on waivers, KPRC 2 confirmed Thursday.

Osuna was set to make roughly $10 million in arbitration money in 2021. He is returning from an elbow injury that kept him out of most action in 2020.

Osuna joined the Astros during the 2018 season in a highly controversial deadline trade with Osuna serving a domestic violence suspension.

Osuna pitched in parts of three seasons for Houston, pitching to a 2.45 ERA in 93 regular-season games with 51 saves. He racked up three postseason saves for the Astros but struggled to hold runners off the board. He gave up at least one run in every postseason series except for the 2018 ALDS.

Osuna’s injury in 2020 kept him out for most of the year with him pitching in just four games. Osuna threw 4.1 innings, giving up one run with three strikeouts and one save.
