Ginny Fuchs prepares for pro boxing debut

HOUSTON – Olympian boxer Virginia “Ginny” Fuchs is preparing in Houston for her pro boxing debut. Fuchs fought in her first Olympics in 2021 after being the captain of the 2016 team but not qualifying to fight.

Despite reaching her goal of making the Olympics, Fuchs was disappointed at not medaling.

“To be honest, it didn’t hit me for a while that I didn’t medal,” said Fuchs. “I thought I was going to medal for sure. I’d never gone to an international tournament and not medaled, and then I go to the Olympics and don’t medal - it was hard to take in.”

The next step for Fuchs is professional boxing, as she makes her debut April 9th in Costa Mesa, California. Without Team USA’s structure, Fuchs is taking on a more active role in her career.

“There are a lot pieces you didn’t have to think about, that I have to think about now,” said Fuchs.

Fuchs is winding down the heavy part of her training as she gets ready to face Indeya Smith, who is 2-5-2 and fighting out of Dallas.
