HOUSTON – Houston Astros players are starting off the 2022 season with a new uniform that gives a nod to what the city is best known for.
In a news release on Sunday, the brand new uniform by Nike City Connect introduces the Houston Astros with a “Space City” theme, paying tribute to Houston’s history of space travel.

A video posted on their Facebook page introduces former astronaut Dr. Bernard Harris, who in 1995, he became the first African-American to walk in space, according to his NASA bio.
“This uniform is a thank you to our fans for their relentless support to the Astros and to growing our great community - we don’t see this as just a uniform, but as a movement for our city and we are excited to share it today,” said Anita Sehgal, senior vice president of communications and marketing for the Houston Astros in a statement.
The blue-colored jersey contains a grid pattern with space-inspired lettering throughout, along with a rainbow gradient piping of orange and yellow hues seen throughout. You’ll also find numerous Houston-themed Easter eggs, such as silhouettes of the Houston skyline and the city’s four area codes written in the uniform, according to the release.
Aside from the jersey, players will also wear navy-colored pants, a navy New Era hat with the new team logo, and rainbow-gradient socks that pay homage to the Astros’ iconic rainbow uniform from the 1970s.
Players will begin wearing the new uniform on April 20 and will be worn during home games on Mondays.
