HOUSTON – The Houston Astros announced they claimed right-handed pitcher Oliver Ortega off waivers from the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday., just two days after the start of the offseason.
Ortega. 27, made 10 relief appearances with the Twins last season, going 0-1 with a 4.30 ERA and a .204 opponent’s batting average while spending the bulk of the season with Triple-A St. Paul.
Ortega was on the Twins’ 60-day injured list and will remain on the Astros’ 60-day list after suffering a left lumbar strain following his acquisition.
He was originally signed with the Los Angeles Angels as an international free agent in 2014 before the Twins claimed him off waivers.
