EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Texans veteran safety DeAndre Houston-Carson didn’t travel with the team due to an illness.

The Texans are playing the New York Jets on Sunday during an away game.

Houston-Carson, 30, is listed as questionable. He has one interception in nine games and 23 tackles this season.

The Texans elevated safety Brandon Hills from the practice squad as well as kicker Matt Ammendola, who made all three field goal tries last week in a win over the Denver Broncos.

Ammendola made the game-winning field goal against the Cincinnati Bengals, then missed three consecutive kicks, including a 58-yard potential game-tying kick in a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars that hit the crossbar.

Since that game, Ammendola has been perfect.

Regular kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn hasn’t had any setbacks in his recovery from a strained quadriceps, according to a league source. He just needed another week to continue to rehab his injury.

“Anytime we’re rolling the field goal unit out there, we expect points,” Texans special teams coordinator Frank Ross said. “We obviously know that the one possession games that we’ve been in, it’s going to come to those week in and week out.

“We have to have great protection, great operation, have to be able to handle a wet football and put the thing through the uprights. Great job last week and expecting him to do it again this week.”
