HOUSTON – Growing up in Miami, Fla., Texans veteran middle linebacker Denzel Perryman didn’t have opportunities to visit an NFL stadium and meet the players.

It was emotional for Perryman and his teammates as they hosted 25 members of the Houston Texans Teen Club on Tuesday night at NRG Stadium for a surprise holiday party and flag football game. Besides playing on the field with NFL players, there was a dinner and gifts and gear worth $15,000 for them in partnership with Ticketmaster.

“It’s a lot of fun, man,” Perryman said. “I never had this growing up as a kid, man, so any chance I have to give back to the community, I’m always there. You never know whose day you can make. Just seeing their excitement walking out on this field and walking through the hallways, it means a lot.”

Perryman was joined by linebacker Garret Wallow, defensive end Adedayo Odeleye, wide receiver Alex Bachman, running back Mike Boone, safety Brady Breeze and former Texans defensive lineman Earl Mitchell.

“Just to give back to the community and see smiles on their faces, one kid told me he felt famous just walking through the hallways,” Perryman said. “He said he was having a bad day until he got here. That meant a lot. I’m appreciative.”

There was some talent on display at the game, especially from a speedy quarterback wearing No. 8 the players kept calling Lamar Jackson after the Baltimore Ravens’ speedy quarterback.

“I had a of bullet balls thrown at me,” Perryman said. “My team is about to score.”
