Allen, who trains multiple Texans players, including Tank Dell, Dameon Pierce, Will Anderson Jr., Denzel Perryman and John Metchie III as well as NBA player James Harden and several others, is a former college football player who has overcome adversity. The younger brother of former NFL tight end Dwayne Allen, Justin Allen’s family dealt with homelessness during his childhood. He played wide receiver at New Mexico State after playing at City College of San Francisco before double hip reconstruction and a finger tendon replacement ended his football career.
Allen is an ambassador for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Academy.
“Oh man, it means everything to me,” Allen said. “When I was younger, I saw a lot of people around the city, different athletes, different people doing great things. This is an award I could dream of. The reason why I do what I do is to show the youth you can do whatever you want to by giving your time and being respectful and having your heart in the right place for people.”
As many memorable moments that Allen has been a part of, it was significant for Allen that he helped people stay in shape during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Helping the city was one of my most important moments,” he said. “That provided some peace and stress relief to give people during the pandemic during one of our country’s most difficult times.”
