Texans or Browns? A pre-Wild Card journey to unravel hometown hues!

CLEVELAND, Texas – It’s a football frenzy in Cleveland, Texas, as the countdown to the Wild Card matchup between the Houston Texans and the Cleveland Browns intensifies.

KPRC 2′s Rilwan Balogun embarked on a mission to unravel the town’s loyalties.

Less than 24 hours away from the Texans’ first playoff game since 2019, the excitement is palpable. Fans are gearing up to deck themselves out in team colors, but the burning question remains: in a town named Cleveland, where do allegiances truly lie?

Balogun, our intrepid reporter, hit the streets of Cleveland, Texas, determined to find out.

First up, an audience with none other than Mayor Danny Lee of Cleveland, Texas. With a warm welcome, Mayor Lee immediately set the tone. When asked about rooting for the Browns, his response was as clear as a Texas sky: “The best way to wear out a welcome in Cleveland, Texas is telling them you’re rooting for the Cleveland Browns tomorrow.”

Respectfully noted, Mr. Mayor.

Mayor Lee proudly declared himself a born and bred Texas fan, epitomizing the sentiment echoing through the streets of Cleveland.

Other city employees echoed this sentiment, expressing immense pride in their young team, young coach, and their unwavering belief in a victorious showdown against the Browns.

But what about the everyday folks of Cleveland? Do they stand by their namesake team, or do they defy expectations? Rilwan ventured further, posing the burning question to locals.

Surprisingly, amidst the sea of Cleveland Browns possibilities, the resounding response was clear: “Still Texans all the way.” Tony Farris, a die-hard Texans fan, summed it up succinctly, “It just makes sense.”

Even in the heart of Cleveland, the love for the Texans was unwavering. Hilary Farris, another passionate Texans supporter, delved into the game strategy, emphasizing the importance of defense and expressing optimism about the Texans pulling off a win.

So, grab your popcorn, don your team colors, and get ready for a football spectacle on Saturday. If you don’t have a ticket, tune in to Channel 2 to watch the epic wild card clash.
