By present value, it is the largest contract in MLB history for a relief pitcher, slightly passing Mets closer Edwin Diaz’s deal.
Hader pitched to a 1.28 ERA in 2023, and is a 5-time All-Star and 3-time Hoffman Award winner for Reliever of the Year.
Hader was previously in the Astros system after coming over in a trade in 2013, before Houston traded him away in a 2015 deadline deal.
The left-hander joins right-handers Ryan Pressly and Bryan Abreu to create one of the most potent late-inning groups in all of baseball.
