HOUSTON – Astros special advisor and Baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson raised nearly $1 million for STEM education through his Mr. October Foundation Monday, at his charity golf tournament, according to the Houston Astros.
Jackson brought together dozens of sports legends and celebrities for his Mr. October Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic, held at Astros owner Jim Crane’s Floridan Golf Club in Palm City, Fla.
Jackson joined with celebrities like musicians Travis Scott, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Bun B, Slim Thug, comedians Dave Chappelle and Mo Amer, Astros players Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, Jeremy Peña, Mauricio Dubón and former Astros player Michael Brantley, plus sports legends like Ken Griffey, Jr., Albert Pujols, Julius “Dr. J” Irving, Roger Clemens, Gary Sheffield, Marcus Allen, Jeff Bagwell, Jack Nicklaus, Nick Saban and many more.
“(The support) is overwhelming and it makes my eyes water,” said Reggie Jackson.
“I’m always willing to show up and contribute,” said Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker. “Especially for Reggie, he’s such a great person, he does a lot of things in the community.”
The day’s event is projected to raise between $800,000 and $900,000. The money goes to help underserved youth get more opportunities through STEM education.
