HOUSTON – The 2024 Astros Foundation Classic is loaded, with defending National Champion LSU as one of three top 15 teams in the field of six.
#3 LSU, #9 Vanderbilt and #15 Texas will spend their weekends at Minute Maid Park, along with potential NCAA Tournament squads Houston, Texas State and Lousiana-Lafayette.
The schedule, which features a huge Friday night matchup between LSU and Texas should bring plenty of fans to Minute Maid Park.
LSU coach Jay Johnson says he loves being in Houston for multiple reasons.
“Obviously playing in this venue is very attractive for our players and the largest LSU alum base in the country is Houston,” said Johnson. “And then frankly, recruiting.”
Johnson has already landed two of the top Houston-area high school players for 2024 in Tomball catcher Cade Arrambide and St. Pius X pitcher Casan Evans.
For the Houston Cougars it’s an opportunity to match up against good competition, including a game against powerhouse Vanderbilt on Saturday.
“It’s a regional type environment,” said Houston head coach Todd Whitting.
