HOUSTON – The Texans competed in free agency for former Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley.
Ultimately, though, the Philadelphia Eagles landed the former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Barkley is signing a three-year, $46.75 million maximum value deal that includes a $26 million fully guaranteed and a base value of $37.75 million.

The Texans were involved in contract discussions with Barkley’s representatives at Creative Artists Agency, but didn’t go to the financial stratosphere the Eagles ascended to. Meanwhile, the Texans lost their starting running back from last season. Devin “Motor” Singletary joins the Giants on a three-year, $16.5 million deal that has a maximum value of $19.5 million, per a league source. Singletary led the Texans in rushing with 898 yards and four touchdowns as he caught 30 passes for 193 yards. The Texans have expressed interest in Indianapolis Colts free agent runner Zach Moss, per sources.
A former first-round draft pick from Penn State, Barkley leaves the Giants after playing last season under a $10.09 million franchise tag.
He rushed for 962 yards and six touchdowns and caught 41 passes for 280 yards and four touchdowns on 60 targets last season.
