Left-handed reliver Parker Mushinski has made the Astros opening day roster, a league source tells KPRC 2.

Mushinski, 28, appeared in 14 games for the Astros in 2023, pitching to a 5.52 ERA in 14.2 innings. Mushinski got his first taste of Major League Baseball experience in 2022, appearing in 7 games with a 3.68 ERA in 7.1 innings.

The lefty had a strong spring training, giving up no runs in 9 innings, with 10 strikeouts. He’ll join Josh Hader, Ryan Pressly and Rafael Montero in the Astros bullpen, while set up man Bryan Abreu will re-join the Astros Saturday, after serving his 2-game suspension for hitting Rangers’ outfielder Adolis Garcia with a pitch in the 2023 ALCS.

The Astros have until 11 a.m. Thursday to finish setting their roster, but the team is mostly made up. Houston’s starting lineup is set, along with at least two of their bench spots. The starting rotation is now set with Ronel Blanco being told he’s earned a spot after his 10-strikeout performance Tuesday. The bullpen is the last piece to figure out, according to manager Joe Espada.

With Mushinski set to be in the pen, the Astros likely have only one more spot to decide.

Candidates for that spot could include pitchers who are not on the 40-man roster, like righty Tayler Scott. If the Astros were to add Scott to the roster, they would have to make a corresponding move. Houston currently has two pitchers who they could place on the 60-day injured list, which would clear a 40-man roster space.
