HOUSTON – Veteran free agent defensive end Dawuane Smoot visited the Texans on Wednesday, according to a league source.
Although Smoot wasn’t immediately signed one day before the start of the NFL draft, his meeting was positive and this could be revisited post-draft, per sources.

A former Jacksonville Jaguars third-round draft pick from Illinois, Smoot played last season under a one-year deal.
He recorded 10 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble in 12 games.
Smoot (6-3, 275 pounds) has has played in 99 career games with 17 starts and has recorded 133 tackles, 23 1./2 sacks, 27 tackles for losses, 64 quarterback hits and two fumble recoveries.
As a 10-game starter at right defensive end in 2021, he had a career-high six sacks and seven tackles for losses.
