Every year, plenty of Houston-area teams battle for UIL State Titles, and regularly have success.

Here’s a list of all the local teams still playing in softball and baseball.

SOFTBALL

6A - Kingwood

The Kingwood Mustangs will face Waco Midway in the State semifinals on Friday at 7 p.m. Kingwood is led by two-time Olympic gold medalist Christa Williams-Yates and won their region by beating #1 ranked Katy.

4A - Liberty

The Panthers are a powerhouse in 4A, and will face Canton in the 4A semifinal on Thursday at 7 p.m.

BASEBALL

6A - Tomball vs. Bridgeland

The Tomball Cougars, led by legendary coach Doug Rush are again dominant this season. Tomball is ranked #4 in the country by MaxPreps and has one of the top high school players in the country at catcher, LSU commit, and MLB Draft Prospect Cade Arrambide.

They’ll face Bridgeland in the 6A Region II Final, which is a three-game series starting Thursday. Bridgeland is 32-12 with a number of impressive wins on the season. Their series starts Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

6A - Cy-Fair vs. Pearland

In Region III, Cy-Fair will face Pearland in the Regional Final at Constellation Field in Sugar Land.

Pearland has a top player in Jaden Barfield, who’s committed to Oklahoma. Cy-Fair has speed with Bo Carraway, who broke the school steals record, with 45. The Bobcats are 28-9-2, while Pearland checks in at 32-7-2. That series gets going on Thursday at 7 p.m.

5A - Magnolia West vs. Lake Creek

The Mustangs are good again this season after losing ace James Ellwanger to Dallas Baptist University. Lake Creek is 26-7 this season and ranked in the Top 10 in Texas, via Maxpreps’ rankings.

The school’s play starting Thursday at 7 p.m.
