Thompson, 32, is a former South Carolina quarterback who had an important role with the Texans and previously with Detroit assisting players in their transition to the NFL.

“I think I grew tremendously, man,” said Texans Pro Bowl quarterback C.J. Stroud, who was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year last season. “I know he’s going to be mad at me for this, Dylan Thompson. Oh my gosh, Dylan is one of the best human beings that I’ve ever met in my life. There’s a ton of people, great people in this organization, but DT has been the main person.

“You talk about a brother like to somebody who loves you no matter what happens on that field, you can feel that. I just appreciate that and now he’s going to be mad at me, but, man, he’s a great person, and really one of the reasons why I feel like we were very successful this year.”

Thompson was previously the director of player development at Charleston Southern after playing in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams after going undrafted. At South Carolina, Thompson (6-foot-3, 218 pounds) became a starting quarterback and passed for 3,574 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in his final season. He finished his career with 5,401 yards, 40 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Playing for Steve Spurrier, he led the Southeastern Conference in passing yards as a senior and threw the game-winning touchdown pass for the Gamecocks in the 2013 Outback Bowl as a sophomore.

The Texans’ team development department includes senior manager of team development Morgan Kleinschmidt and team development assistant Camille Wilson, who were also praised by Stroud at his season-ending press conference, along with other staff members.
