HUMBLE – Accustomed to a winning background as a blue-chip recruit from Atascocita High School, offensive lineman Kam Dewberry endured a slow burn over his first two college football seasons.
In the final two seasons of Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher’s tenure, the Aggies weren’t a winning outfit as they combined for 11 wins and 11 losses.

Now that Mike Elko has taken over as the new head coach, Dewberry is confident that the Aggies are on the verge of a turnaround.
“Man, I really feel like coach Elko came in and gave everybody a refresh, a fresh start and kind of set everything back to zero,” Dewberry told KPRC 2 during his Untamed youth football camp at his alma mater. “He came in and applied his core values into the program and understands what it takes for us to be a championship level team. So, I feel like this season we understand what it takes to actually win and understand that winning creates rewards.”
At 6-foot-4, 330 pounds, Dewberry provides a massive blocking presence at the line of scrimmage. He’s a projected starting offensive guard and has made a recovery from shoulder surgery. He started five games as a freshman and the former prep All-American started twice at left guard and once at right guard while appearing in 13 games last season as a sophomore.
“As an offensive lineman, it’s a very developmental position,” Dewberry said. “As an offensive lineman, you’re never going to be completely polished coming out of college until your sixth or seventh year in the NFL is when you’re really developed and polished. I’m going to keep attacking and getting better every day and get better. I’m at my maximum and I can develop and get one percent better every day.”

Dewberry’s ambition is clear: to follow in the footsteps of former Atascocita offensive linemen Kenyon Green and Sam Cosmi. Green is a former Texans first-round draft pick and consensus All-American at Texas A&M. Cosmi is a former All-Big 12 selection at Texas now playing for the Washington Commanders as a former second-round draft pick.
“Definitely, that’s the goal at the end of the day,” Dewberry said. “But I can’t focus on the NFL. If I’m not doing what I need to do to get the NFL, then I’m not doing my job. Some of the guys get clouded and distracted by the NFL. As long as I do everything I can, then I’m doing my job. Those guys had that same process of doing everything they can in college and living in the moment and developing and getting better to play at that level.”
Dewberry thoroughly enjoyed teaching the game at his football camp.
“It means everything, being able to give back to the community that rose me up from the dirt and gave back to me,” Dewberry said. “Hey, they say it’s a village. This game can’t be taken for granted. It’s really just football and you’ve got to know and love the grind and got to understand that it’s going to be a grind.
“If you don’t love this game, you’re not going to be able to play it very long. You have to love the game and have a level of dedication to thrive. You’ve got to have high energy and high effort and control the things you can control.”
