NBA Summer League is in full swing, and many of the league’s young and developing talents are showcasing their skills. Among the top performers from the first stretch of games has been Rockets’ top draft pick Reed Sheppard.

Sheppard, the third overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, has averaged 20 points, 4.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds in Houston’s first three Summer League games. His strong play has helped steer the team to a 2-1 record in the competitive Las Vegas league.

Along with the three-level scoring that he displayed in droves during his college career, the former Kentucky Wildcat has shown sharp defensive instincts in Summer League, leading to several steals that he turned into buckets on the other end.

Sheppard’s sharpshooting and playmaking have drawn the attention of NBA stars, as star point guards Trae Young and Ja Morant both complemented the rookie on X (formerly Twitter).

He was also given props by 12-year NBA veteran and four-time All-Star Mark Price.

The Rockets will play again on Thursday, July 18, against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Tip-off is slated for 10 p.m.
