HOUSTON – As the Texans broke down the huddle at the end of practice Wednesday, they had a special visitor lead the charge.

Lucas, a 10-year-old boy from Green Bay, Wisconsin, is a cancer survivor who’s undergoing maintenance treatment for lymphoma. Through the Make-A-Wish foundation, Lucas visited training camp as a special guest of Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs, his favorite player.

“It was fun,” said Lucas, who plays wide receiver when he’s able to play football. “He’s a receiver. I like receivers.”

Lucas has followed Diggs’ career and hung out with him on the sideline. He said that it was “really fun” meeting Diggs along with John Metchie III and C.J. Stroud. After practice, Lucas took pictures with wide receiver Tank Dell, offensive linemen Tytus Howard and Shaq Mason and Texans owner Cal McNair. He received an autographed Texans helmet and plans to attend the game between the defending AFC South champions and the Green Bay Packers this fall.

“It was a very special moment for us today to host Lucas with Make-a-Wish,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said. “His favorite player is Stefon Diggs. So, for a young kid, 10 years old, to get the opportunity to hang out here with Stef today is a special moment that he will always remember and that’s one thing for us all of us.

“Just create memories in life. Enjoy every day, enjoy every moment and create those special memories. Something we can hold on to. We had Lucas break us down today and all of our guys were excited to see him.”
