Lamar Texans look to build upon successful 2023 season

HOUSTON – The 2023 season was magical for the Lamar Texans. They went 12-1, making it to the third round of the playoffs. The Texans dominated their district, going 6-0 and outscoring opponents 373-15 (an average of winning every game roughly 62-3).

But last year was last year.

“It’s a brand new season, you don’t carry any of the stats or points or wins into the new year,” said head coach Michael Lindsey.

The confidence from winning 12 games and two playoff games, including a thriller over a talented Ridge Point squad can carry over.

“That same energy and hunger to win every game,” said senior safety Cory Mathews. “We practice hard at practice to be as great as we can.”

The season starts Thursday night against Atascocita, the same team that knocked the Texans out of the playoffs.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment to get back at Atascocita, we need this time to shine,” said senior center Danny Stein.

“I’ve been waiting for my time for the get back, so stay tuned!” said senior offensive lineman Dramodd Odoms.

Playoff revenge aside, the Texans look to be a powerhouse again.

“We know how to work together and put on a show every game,” said Stein.

That show led to 12 wins in 2023, and the Texans are hoping for a similar output.

“We have the core, and we have the trenches and that gives me a lot of hope.” said Lindsey.
