Legendary Rice, San Jacinto Junior College baseball coach Wayne Graham passes away

Led Owls program for 26 years, winning 2003 National title

HOUSTON – Baseball coaching legend Wayne Graham has passed away according to family members who confirmed the news to KPRC-2. Graham was 88 and died Tuesday night in Austin where he had made him home.

Graham was a Houston native starring at HISD’s Reagan High school in the early 1950′s before playing college baseball at the University of Texas and then 11 years in the professional ranks.

When it came to coaching made his name as the head coach of San Jacinto Junior College leading that program leading that program to national titles and then Graham made the move to Rice University where he led the Owls program for 26 seasons including a national championship in 2003. He also led Rice to 21 conference championships.

Graham was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012.
